Remedial massage

At Coastal Therapies, remedial massage is not a whole body treatment. Instead, our therapists target injured or stressed muscles, complementing the rehabilitative efforts of our holistic practice. Support your musculoskeletal system with expert treatment today, and find out more about our approach below.

What’s involved in your remedial massage appointment?

Your confidence and comfort is important to us, so before we begin addressing sore spots and tight knots, we’ll sit with you and go through:

  • what a remedial massage therapist does;

  • key problems you’d like us to address;

  • and the techniques we may apply to your aching muscles, from cupping to dry needling and manual manipulation.

After we cover these points, we’ll dig into your aches and pains in more detail, making sure your treatment is effective and exactly what you need.

Do we offer one-off bookings?

Yes! While return visits are always beneficial - who doesn’t love a massage - we know not all of our clients are local or even easily available week to week. If you book with us for a one-off treatment or the occasional visit, we recommend a longer session, so you (and your body) get the attention you deserve.

Alternatively, if you’re keen to come back regularly, your therapist will develop a plan that makes the most out of your time at Coastal Therapies, ensuring you feel happier, healthier and more mobile.

Do we offer cupping or dry needling?

We certainly can, depending on your needs. While dry needling is more often associated with osteopathy, our remedial massage therapist are ready to explore the benefits of cupping (or myofascial cupping) with you. Did you know cupping improves blood flow to cupped areas, speeding up the healing process? Ease muscle soreness and reduce the severity of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) - great for athletes, active people in training or people returning to the gym. Interested in dry needling only? Reach out to one of our osteopaths today.

What you need to know about booking a remedial massage

Do you have to strip down to your underwear in the treatment room?

Not at all. Our practitioners will always offer a robe at the beginning of your appointment, or if you’re comfortable without, you’ll be expertly draped throughout the session. Consent is important to us here at Coastal Therapies, so we’ll check in throughout your treatment, getting your okay to progress through various techniques.

How much notice do you need to give to make a booking online?

If you need an appointment within the hour - and we have an opening - please contact the clinic on 02 6677 0276.

Does Coastal Therapies have a cancellation policy?

Remedial massage FAQ

What is remedial massage?

Remedial massage focuses on healing damaged, tense and knotted muscles, restoring mobility and alleviating discomfort while the body works hard to repair injury. Like other types of massage, remedial treatments can vary in intensity - not every issue should be treated with deep massage, while other problems won’t be resolved with softer techniques.

What are the benefits of remedial massage?

Outside general relief, remedial massage stimulates blood flow, increases mobility and joint health, releases tension, reduces stress and aids in restoring the correct position of the underlying skeletal system.

What is the difference between remedial massage and relaxation massage?

Remedial massages – also known as sports massage or injury treatment – centre on support, recovery and healing, while relaxation massages calm the mind and rejuvenate the soul through gentle therapies.

Should you invest in both remedial massage and osteopathy?

While it’s possible to have one without the other — our soft tissue techniques improve posture, relieve sore muscles and manage sports injuries – remedial and sports massage can be more effective when paired with an osteopathic plan in the case of injury or significant muscular damage.
